Prescriptions

Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

  • using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
  • using the GP online system: SystmOnline
  • fill out a repeat prescriptions request form
  • phoning our dispensary on 01493 368119 after 11:30am
  • by post –  post the counterfoil of the prescription document clearly marking with a tick the medication you require to the surgery, enclosing a stamped self-addressed envelope. If posting please remember to give at least 1 weeks notice for a first class stamp and longer if using second class.

Please request repeat prescriptions well in advance of public holidays, etc.

For those that request their prescription be sent to a local pharmacy then the time will be dependant on that pharmacy. Please contact the relevant pharmacy for an indication of the timescale.

Dispensary

Fleggburgh Surgery provides a dispensary that enables all eligible patients (patients living 1 mile or more away from a Pharmacy) to collect all medications prescribed by the GP.

The dispensary is closed 1pm to 2pm.

We are part of the medicine support services link to provide medicine dosette boxes.

We offer a delivery service for patients who are completely housebound or who have weekly dosette boxes. Delivery is on a Friday morning.

We provide dressings and medications prescribed by the district nurses.

Information about our prescriptions system

Orders for Methotrexate and Warfarin

These must be ordered directly with the surgery. Please do not use the online systems for these.

Prescriptions lost in the post

Unfortunately we cannot accept responsibility for prescriptions lost in the post or by the chemist.

Medication required urgently

This will be dispensed on request or a prescription will be issued to take to a pharmacy, by contacting the dispenser on duty.

Collecting your prescription

Information:

Please allow 2 working days for collecting repeat prescriptions and 5 working days by post, if you provided a self-addressed envelope.

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

Go to Medicines A to Z (nhs.uk)

If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription:

Medication reviews

We undertake reviews of patients medication compliance. If you have been advised by the surgery that your review is due, please use our medication review form.

Please request your medications review appointment at least 10 days before your medication runs out.

Prescription charges

Good medication management is important

Please preempt ordering prescriptions to avoid medication running out.

If you are given 56 days of tablets and you have 7 days left, order your new prescription. In the case of any emergency your regular pharmacist will give you a couple of tablets until you get your new prescription.

It is good practice that repeat medication is regularly reviewed so that you get optimum care.

If you are going on holiday you should take a list of your medication with you.

If you have elderly relatives ensure that they have an adequate supply of their medication. Dosette boxes/blister packs can be arranged if they have a large amount of medication to take.

Useful information

Each drug has two names the generic and the brand name. Where possible we use the generic name because this is usually much cheaper for the health service. Due to this, you may notice a change in colour, shape or size of your drug. Do not be concerned by this, you are still receiving the same drug of the same quality, it is only the appearance that has altered.
